GENERAL METHODS THAT WILL BE EMPLOYED FOR ANY OF THE ABOVEMENTIONED TYPE OF STOVE ETC. ARE AS FOLLOWS

  1. The use of boot covers and floor runners when necessary and proper covering of firebox and connector pipe, so as to prevent the spread of soot inside the dwelling.
  2. Cleaning of cap/spark arrestor if present.
  3. Brushing of chimney flue and connector (black pipe) with a heavy duty flat wire brush or light duty rotary whip and removal of whatever comes of that.
  4. Cleaning of inside of firebox (incl. smoke shelf, above baffles etc.) and removal of ashes. Hepa filter vacuum used during this portion of task to control any ash/soot that may be disturbed.
  5. Cleaning of glass doors if applicable.
  6. Notes on chimney/firebox condition; Recommendations for any necessary repairs; Suggestions for better burning techniques.
  7. If requested: Off premises disposal of firebox ash etc.
These procedures can take anywhere (On average just over an hour) between 45 minutes to 2.5 hours from start to finish. It depends upon the roof/chimney set-up/conditions and just how dirty the flue, firebox, and glass are.

POTENTIAL EXTRA CHARGES

Please know that if I discover the need for additional measures to be taken
to ensure the best job is done for you (and/or to keep myself
upright&intact) I will discuss such, along with any extra cost
                                              before proceeding.
  • Rotary Cleaning - $15.00 per every 5'  necessary                                    If a chimney has Glazed Creosote on the walls of the flue this method may be advised in order to facilitate safe wood burning. Usually only applicable to masonry chimney/flue and is minimally destructive (spinning chains on a drill) as long as flue tiles are free of cracks or missing pieces.
  • Additional Firebox Cleaned - $20.00                                                          Sometimes one flue (inner wall of chimney) may have been built (usually turn of the century homes) to vent more than one burning unit and so cleaning of that flue will result in debris (soot etc.) flowing into an unused wood burner as well as the one originally intended to be cleaned.
  • Fireplace Ash Cleanout - $20.0                                                                Although leaving it full may affect air flow, if one favors scooping their ash into the hole to be dealt with later rather than shoveling it out, this does not constitute a liability and so I only do it upon request.
  • Snow/Ice Roof Hazard - $30.00                                                                If snow must be removed from your roof and or I need to use additional safely equipment in order to stay alive and do the job right, this charge will be applied to your total.
  • General Snow Removal- $70.00 per hour                                                  If access to the outside of your chimney or doorway (nearest stove etc) is blocked by excessive amounts of snow, this charge may be applied to your total.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 WEEKEND WORK                                                   I am happy to work weekends, however I also love life and therefore weekends are of course extra and the following charges will apply .....unless it is at my request to work for you on  such a day.
  • Hourly Labor- $20.00 Extra Per Hour
  • Cleanings - $25.00  Extra Per System
  • Installations- $200.00 Extra
  • Travel-  50 Cents Extra Per Mile

  • To a Free-Standing Pellet Stove or Pellet Stove Insert-
  • Flat-Rate $585.00 Installation of vent, stove and other necessary components only
  • NOTE: Some installations (such as a pellet stove venting straight out the wall) are not very time consuming and therefore (if you so choose) can be done Per-Hour instead of by the Flat-Rates noted above.
  • If you elect to go Per-Hour and it takes more time than anticipated, the labor cost will be capped at the Flat-Rate.
  • Neither Travel Considerations nor Demolition Extras (if applicable) are included.

POTENTIAL DEMOLITION EXTRAS:

  • Old System Removal - $70.00 per hour
  • Flue Tile Removal - $70.00 per hour                                                                 Sometimes, for safety's sake and or adherence to NFPA code, original flue tiles must be broken out and removed. Either because there is insufficient room for a liner to be inserted though existing chimney to maintain proper clearances or because there is an abundance of creosote along damaged flue tiles which may have migrated to the outer surface and pose a risk of chimney fire even though there is a new liner installed.
  • Masonry Cutting/Drilling - $70.00 per hour                                          Extra work involved to cut through concrete and extra measures necessary to keep the home dust free. Possible need to rent extra equipment.

                            TRAVEL CONSIDERATIONS:

If work is beyond 20 miles from Helena proper $1.75 per mile ($2.25 on hazardous roads) one way will be charged in addition to whichever of the above type of service applies to you.
I GO BY MY ODOMETER FROM THE MAP'S EDGE OF HELENA TO YOUR                  DOOR. WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT REFLECT GPS MILEAGE.                        Usually it's a bit less.
NOTE: If on the same day, I have other appointments in your area, then the travel charges will be divided equally between you and your neighbors. So, if you can wait for me to gather more appointments in your area or you are able to get some neighbors on-board for a cleaning it will be more cost effective for you. If you get me NEW customers in your area you will be compensated ($15.00 a head) for your leg-work.
